Lilienthal Flight Museum

UI/UX & Web

I completed my BA program at the Münster School of Design with a bachelor's project on the topic of "Web Design for Museums and Exhibitions." During the research phase, I focused intensively on the websites of well-known museums in Germany and worldwide. I studied how these websites are structured and how museums use digital media to engage and expand their target audiences.

To practically apply my research findings in a design project, I decided to redesign a museum website. I chose the Otto Lilienthal Museum in Anklam, the hometown of my mother, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The museum is currently planning to move into a restored church in the city center and rebrand itself as the "IKAREUM - Lilienthal Flight Museum." Due to these plans and the availability of plenty of textual content, along with existing image and video material to work with, the museum was an ideal choice.

To structure the project, I analyzed the existing website in detail and explored how the design concept could be improved — with the goal of making Lilienthal's passion for flight tangible, inspiring website visitors on the topic, and encouraging them to visit the museum. Based on this analysis, I designed several subpages in Figma to present my redesign concept as an interactive website prototype.

Disclaimer: This project is purely a research and design project. There are currently no plans to implement the designs.
